DVD Video is a video format which store the digital video on DVD discs. DVD Video consist of MPEG-2 or MPEG-1. Standard DVD Video contains some extras like chapters, links to features, and the number of video tracks. DVD player will navigate DVD disc based on these extra informations.
Generally, PAL DVD contains at least one audio track using the PCM, MP2, or AC-3 format, NTSC DVD has no requirement of MP2 format. PAL and NTSC are the region code of DVD Video. Each DVD Video has one or more region code which denote the playing area of DVD Video.
The subtitles track is contained in VOB file of DVD. There are 32 subtitle or subpicture tracks in various languages.
The main restrictions of DVD Video are Macrovision, Content Scramble System (CSS), region codes, and disabled user operations (UOPs). Content Scramble System is a copy protection encryption which can protect DVD video from pirate.
